FOODSAFE LEVEL 1

WHAT is Foodsafe?
Foodsafe (level 1) is a one-day, eight hour training course for all of those involved in Food and Beverage. Course participants will learn how to safely handle and prepare food to protect themselves and their customers from food related illness and injury.

WHO should take Foodsafe?
Food safety training is regulated by the British Columbia Health Act:

Food Premises Regulation, Division 2 – Training 10.  Foodsafe training:

1. Every operator of a food service establishment must hold a certificate, issued by a health official, for the successful completion of the food handler training program known as FOODSAFE or its equivalent.
2. Every operator of a food service establishment must ensure that, while the operator is absent from the food service establishment, at least one employee present in the establishment holds the certificate referred to in subsection (1).

Classes run from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. including a one hour lunch and two 15 minute breaks. You will take an exam at the end of the workshop and receive your certificate at a later date through the mail if you pass the exam. For students whose first language is not English, it's recommended that you have advanced English skills to be able to handle the lecture and the exam well.
